Cheated by Doha Freight Company- Pinoy Transport
Hi,
We sent some furniture items (8 pcs) from Doha to our hometown In India through Pinoy Transport Company vide air freight at a cost of QR 1800/-. It was collected from our place in Doha on 27/11 and reached our place in India only after 20 days on 13/12, though it was air shipped.
The furniture every single piece was broken into pieces and we immediately complained to the Doha company about it and since then till now we are asking for being reimbursed and this company is trying to fool us.
First they took our bank account number to say they will directly deposit the money in our account and now they say they will not pay us anything and that we can go legal if we want.
Can someone please advise how we should make this company pay us the entire freight cost and at least 50% of our furniture cost if not full.
Would look forward to real good advise and help.
Now why would anyone trust a Pinoy agent to ship to India??
You need to read the fine print in your contract.
You may be entitled to a refund on the air freight cost, but I think you will find the freight company exempted themselves from the costs of damage to goods and if so, it's unlikely you will be able to recover the replacement cost of the furniture. You might be able to recover the freight forwarding fee if all 8 pieces of furniture are damaged (I dont know how the other pieces are because you seem to have posted 3 pictures of one piece of furniture.)
It pays to read a contract before you sign it so you know what to expect if something goes wrong.
What many people do not understand is that once the cargo is put on board, the responsibility of the cargo company ceases. The cargo company would simply tell the Consumer Protection Department to ask the person to take up the matter with the airline people. bhitalia would not succeed very far. He should have insured the consignment before shipment. And as I had said earlier, I find it very difficult to believe that the cargo as shown in the pictures could have transported to India from Doha in just QR 1800, and that too by airfreight.
Yes, I would advice Consumer Protection Department, provided you have proper pictures of how it was being packed and how it was found when unpacked. They would surely look into all the proper evidences.
I don't think that would work. I believe you did not insure the cargo. As such, you may not succeed in recovering any money. Had you insured it, you could lodge a claim on the insurance company and get your money for the damages.
Also, I find it difficult to believe that you could send 8 pieces of furniture to India at a cost of just QR 1800 and that too by airfreight even if it was in knock-down condition. From the pictures you have posted, they don't appear to be. They also appear to be used furniture in poor condition.
thanks for the advise. I will surely do so.
Else file a police report
Go and talk to the Consumer Protection People ..
