Car Registration Renewal/Inspection
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it in the forums...
Anyway, our car is 3 years old (2004), and registration is up next week. I guess we need to go for an inspection first. Does anyone have an idea/list of what they inspect for? I hear that we need a fire extinguisher (which we don't have), how can I get one installed correctly? Or, can I just buy one and throw it in car? Any other quirky things I should try to fix or check on before I go?
Also, I called my insurance company, talked to 3 different people, and got 3 different stories (surprise, surprise). Has anyone heard of the idea that the car registration date must match the date of the insurance renewal? My car registration expires next week, and my insurance doesn't expire until March 2008. They said I have to come in to extend my insurance until July 2008 or the traffic department won't register my car (they did last year, no problem). Of course, when I renewed my policy in March, the agent didn't bother to mention this either. (and I'm really not interested in heading down to QIC more than once a year, have you all seen the parking nightmare there?!) Is this a new law or is this just weird? My husband registered the car last year and says it was the easist thing he's done in Qatar so far, then again, we didn't have to do an inspection. I think I'll do it this year, since I hear they have a "ladies section"...
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!
You should have fire extinguisher fixed inside the car. So park near any car accessories shop and buy one and tell them to fix it. The inspection company sells extinguishers but am not sure if they fix them.
Your tires should be in good (acceptable condition), all lights working. No accident or major damage to the body. Seat belts.
Mechanical things should not be a problem coz the car is relatively new.
Once you finish inspection, extend your insurance till July '08 and then proceed to registration renewal.
Am not sure about the ladies section. You better call the inspection company and ask for any specifics. Hope there would be somebody to pick the phone. In such case give you accurate answers.
Good luck.
