Although I understand what Daiwai means (sometimes people think i'm rude because i say it as it is and humans are sensitive by nature) but we all know that in Qatar laws and things change fast and sometimes even the people working at the trafic dept will not know the answer (from experience) so the website would be the last place i would check for anythingt new happening. I have been told by some colleagues who drive in Qatar with a valid international license that it had become unlawful to do so. So I would follow canarybird's advice or my own advice and go to the trafic dept or to the MOI who will help you with this issue, but don't give up quickly, get something written
A foreigner can rent a car with a driving licence from home - but only within seven days arriving in Qatar (although expats resident in other GCC countries can drive for up to three months). After that, a temporary driving licence must be obtained, issued by the Traffic Licence Office . It costs QR150 and lasts for three months - rental agencies can arrange this. Try Al-Muftah Rent-A-Car 432 8100.
Does that please everyone?
If you're living life on the edge, you've got too much room.
Asian_tigerusty, a temporary driving license card can be issued to you but for how long, I'm not sure. To make sure, I suggest you get in touch with the traffic department at Madinat Khalifa.
SHOUT t_c_o_m....and I was not meaning to be rude, as you would see if you read my following comments. What I meant was, why bother asking your neighbours when you have an encyclopaedia at your fingertips?

look there are lots of question here which are far worst than what i have! all we need is a little respect and accept that everybody is unique in their own way...
Actually I checked the e-gov site and it is not stated there under driving licenses.
Unless the law has changed you can drive providing you have a valid license but you have to register with the police and get a temporary license for Qatar, better to do this than get stopped and pay a fine
Go to the Madinat Khalifa Police they can advise you best as there are new laws coming into force all the time and this may already have been changed.
...have that effect A_T, just thought that you could have found the answer immediately by looking at a gov website.Would have saved you some time and you would have got the correct info.
All i dod was make a rational comment, it was not an insult to anyone.

Please don't take that sanctimonious attitude and tell me to cool down - I was only making a simple observation - surely if you can find this place you can us ethe web? I appreciate that this forum is very useful, and it has been to me,but I am somtimes amazed at the questions people ask when they could easily find the answer to their question straight away by typing it into Google for example.
Anyway, fyi my BP is normal!

...I just can't believe that anyone asks such a question...I mean, if you can find this forum and ask it here, can't you find the official government website and finr out for yourself? No disrespect meant, but it's not that difficult..or is it?

Hi Asiantiger, I heard stories that there's a new law banning anyone but GCC licence holders to drive in Qatar. best thing to do is to find out from your nearest police station or the MOI website.
