Can anyone recommend a Doctor (British or American Nationality preferably) in Doha please?

I need to see a Doctor mainly about, what I think is, a trapped nerve in my shoulder/neck. We travel home to UK at end of December, so it could maybe wait until then, but it's bloody painful!

I don't know whether I should just go to Hamad Hospital and take my chances or if there are Private Doctors around who would attend to me sooner? I have had problems with this before and X-rays showed no problems so I dunno what it is except I have woken myself up screaming a few times in the last couple of months!!! It's like having a dagger stabbed into the base of my neck. And, before you ask, YES I have checked hub's side of the bed for any sharp instruments and the result was negative. :P

Any help or advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I received your e-mail, KC, for which I also thank you - very kind of you to take the time to send me some hints and suggestions.

Could be a pinched nerve or a nerve that is growing in the wrong direction or altnernatively could be a nerve virus.

physio or chiro wont do any good other than to help you bear the pain

X-ray wouldnt show anything. Get a CT scan, the one with high color contrast. Get a nerve test.

Consultants at Hamad Hospital are usually the most reliable. You might need to check with Al Emadi hospital for visitng consultants. Usually they get good doctors as well.

Eventually, you might have to do physiotherapy and to the best of my knowledge, Hamad Hospital is the best equiped and having the best qualified physiotherapists.

Get well.

Corne a dental assistant ? Is it ur "pick on Corne" day ? Seriously, on the other thread and now this ? Or is this ur way of joking ? I really don't know. Anyhow, no I'm not a dental assistant, I'm a doctor-to-be...hopefully a surgeon but never know.

that we had been called out to rescue after he was hit by a car and when we picked him up he was in absolute agony, so he plunged his teeth into my arm.... no worries, it's par for the course... a hasard in the type of job we do...

and it happened exactly a month ago... so I am all healed now....

But seriously Jauntie...you won't go wrong with the American Hospital...

American hospital is really good, just came back from the 2nd of my Tetnus shots after the dog bite.... the Egyptian doctor that attended to me when I went in for the stiches is wonderful.. and he has done such a good job on my arm... I think the scarring will be minimal...

Also, you don't have to sit for hours like at Hamad... treatment might be good, but really its a circus there with hundreds of people in the queue before you...

My own doctor in UK is Asian! And before I moved to that practice my doctor, although she was English, was married to a doctor from Hong Kong and I saw him occasionally too (although I sometimes had a problem understanding his accented English).

I guess I made the comment about British or American because I'm used to their 'accent' :D

But I don't think there's a problem with my spine. I have a numb area just below my neck and although it's numb it sometimes itches and tingles if clothing is against it! Of course, scratching doesn't work to relieve the itch because the area is numb! But then there's this sharp pain which is AWFUL. Last time it went like this, if I was lying down I couldn't get up unless hub pulled me up by my arms, because to try to lift my head and shoulder off the pillow/arm of sofa was just too painful! Darn my aging body :P

Sorry to talk aches and pains, but it's sort of getting me down now because of how long it's been going on.

Specialises in Vertebrae?

I googled it and on looking at ONE site (haven't checked thoroughly) it looked like what an Orthopedic person would do i.e. crack the bones into place - or is it like acupuncture ....

Will check into it further, but thanks for the phone numbers TCOM

I just didn't know quite where to start! I suppose a 4 hour wait in Hammad Hospital is the only answer?

I bought some ibuprofen (anti inflammatory) they worked last time (a couple of months ago) but they don't seem to be doing the business this time. Chemist suggested some Vitamin B+ she sells, which she says is for 'nerve pains'. Worth a try. That and eat Al Meera out of vegetables? :D

Good Morning jauntie :)

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're not having too much pain now. I recommend Hammad hospital. They're great there, and so freindly. You may wait for a while but Doctors as well as nurses are excellent. I think coolq is working there and he can advise on such an issue. He did prpose to help the last time I had a similar nerve problem. I hope you can get rid of the pain Inchallah. May God bless you and keep you safe:)
