Bad Car Rental Experience - Country Rent A Car

By majeed_xyz

Like all new expats in Qatar, I was required to go to driving school. Since life in Qatar is very difficult without a car, as soon as I obtained a Drivers permit, I opted to rent a car. This was a temporary choice, since I intended to purchase my own car soon. I opted for Country Rent a Car and rented a 2013 Honda City for one month.

As every rental agency, they made a pre-check list before the car was handed over, and thats where my Ordeal began. The second day of car rental, one of the tyres got punctured, I assumed this was just bad luck and had the tyre repaired after change (didnt realize how difficult it is to find a tyre repair shop in Doha till that day)

One week later I had another flat tyre. The attendant at Woqod told me the tyres of the car are in shabby condition and need to be replaced. Hence at the end of the month I went to Country Rent a Car for renewing the car lease for one more month. I asked them to have the tyres replaced but they assured me of having the tyres checked (which were perfect as per their inspection).

Unfortunately for me, I kept the car for another month and faced a bad tyre burst soon after. I complained to the Country Rent a Car guy and they said they cant do much to help me and if I want I can return the car. Luckily I had shortlisted a car for purchase during this time and returned the car back 1 week earlier. Nonetheless, the people at Country Rent a Car charged me 400 Qatari Rayal for bursting one of their tyres, since apparently it was my fault. After much negotiation they agreed at 300 Qatari Rayal.

I just wanted to get rid of this obligation so I paid them off. But in short i was driving a car and experienced 3-4 flats... suffered the pain and agony of replacing tyres.... and ended up paying the Rental company 300 QAR extra

My advise stay away from COUNTRY RENT A CAR!

today I also got cheated by Country Rental car Ezdan Hotel west bay. minor scratch on the front engine hood, they asked me to pay 600 (100 for police and 500 for scratch). this is brand new car honda city 2020, logically still full cover insurance. This rental company is really worst I ever used.

I rented a car and asked for 1000qar deposit. They said they will give it 1 week after a gave back the car. Now, half month passed already and I don't have any call back from them to get the check. They always tell that it is not yet available to the accountant, but don't say the exact date it is ready. Is this normal? It's my first time to rent. Do i need to file a complaint against them now? How?

Thank you.

You should file a counter claim and also go to the Consumer Protection people .. The authorities after reading this should look into the matter and investigate for themselves

Friends, I too had a terrible experience with Country rent a car. Apologies if this comment becomes lengthy.

I took Toyota Fortuner from them for 10 days on 3rd July 2016. They made a very attractive offer, QR 140 per day rent and they blocked only QR 500 from my credit card as security. As we were taking a car on rent for the first time, we didn’t know we had to check every nook and corner of the car before accepting it. on 13th July, we returned the car as it is after getting it washed. They let us go after signing the checklist but after twenty minutes, asked us to come to their office again. When we went back, they said there are two tiny scratches on back bumper (two tiny black dots, in hindsight, I wish I had taken a photo of it to post it here) and a small dent right underneath the front left door handle. We contested their claim and said we have not made any scratches and it might have been there before that we did not notice when we took the car as it is so tiny. They said okay and after 14 days they released our QR 500 that was blocked from the credit card.

On August 27th 2016, I got a message from bank stating they have tried to take QR2580/- from my card. I had only QR1600 balance in my card at that time and before I could block the transaction, they took QR1500 from my card. I was shocked beyond belief and called them to understand what happened and why they charged my card. The guys at Airport branch said that I made accident and for that QR1500, for not producing police paper QR100 and as the vehicle was in garage for 7 days, QR 980/- as its rent making it a total of QR 2580/-. I tried to reason with him and explain the absurdity of their claim. He said I need to go to their head office and talk to the manager. So I went to their Barwa village office during September first week and spoke to their manager. He flatly said nothing can be done as they had the vehicle checklist with them under which I had signed. I checked the checklist and felt numb. After I signed the checklist, they have added the repair charges of QR2580/- and that too in different ink! Now, I am not someone who likes to fight or abuse so I tried to reason with him logically but again he flatly said nothing can be done as it is their management decision (Company Policy). After much discussion, he said they will treat QR 1500 as full and final settlement and I do not have to pay the balance QR1080/-. I was so shocked that I forgot to get it in writing from them. It was plain daylight robbery and I did not know what to do. At last I left with a heavy heart stating to him that I will consider this as my charity to them. My ordeal ended there or so I thought. It was not to be.

A week back, I got a call from Wakrah police station. Police said they have received a complaint against me from Country Rent a car. I called their manager and he said, his boss did not agree to waive off the balance QR1080/- and I now need to pay 1160 including legal translation fees of QR 80!!. I told him, If his boss did not agree, he could have just informed me but instead of that, they went straight to police and registered a case against me!. He conveniently said he forgot! Would you guys believe it? I couldn’t. I just couldn’t fathom how an organization can be so unprofessional, indecent and greedy. But at times truth is stranger than fiction. And I had to pay the balance 1160 to get the case off me. All this because I do not know Arabic and do not have any friends who could talk to the police and convince them.

From my own experience and from the other comments here, one thing is certain. Their modus operandi is to cheat the naïve, non-arabic customers by offering them cars at good prices and by exhorting fines twice the amount of rent charged some way or the other. They really have no shame.

Is there a way we can all unite and give a mass petition against Country Rent a Car? Is there a way someone can do an expose for Doha news or Gulf Times? Their atrocities should come to light. May be someone should take up a Public interest litigation. I do not know if such an option is here in Qatar. Anyway, if we unite, we can at least make sure no other expat gets robbed of their hard earned money by Country Rent a car.

When I rented a car we have a mutual agreement that i can take a car without advance payment. I just issue a cheque as what they require, & my monthly payment of 1700 only. After an unexpected scenario I lost my job & I failed to pay them for 3 months. When I ask them to return the car they refuse to accept it w/out payment. So i take it back w/me as I need to gathered a total amount of 19000QAR as there basis in daily rate of 150QAR. I went all with this kind of nightmare such as facing Police & prosecutor. I melted when I heard that I am going to pay the total amount of QAR19,000. I really do not know which & where department I can held my concern. As I am in a very bad situation now.

YES my friends this COUNTRY rent a car is a fraud agency ,.....they have a cheap, offensive strategy of earning money from customers for no fault

let me brief my worst experience with them

i have rented a car for Qar250.00 for 5 days, at the time of receiving "luckily i have taken pics of the car" so after 5 days when i went to handover there team said that i will be fined for Qar1500.00 since i have made scratches on there mirror and bumper

i was shocked and asked do u have any proof that i made ??

that reckless morons told that we don't have any record of that scratches in the receipt while they handed over

immediately i have shown them the pics that i have taken at the time of receiving

all people where surprised apologized and returned my check

wait guys story didn't end here

immediately the next day they have SUE me reported the POLICE that i didn't pay the bill

there i have undergone the miserable period of my life ....i was made to sit in the station for 5 hours on busy working day

"i lost my job to for being in police station"

though i produced all valid documents to prove i am not a culprit

damn this constitution don't understand any request of a expat hence i was in police station went to prosecution to prove i am wrong then i was made to go home...

still my case is under evaluation

Moral : please friends be careful and have proper record while ur in need of a rent a car

and please STAY AWAY FROM COUNTRY RENT A CAR...kindly sue them if your in my situation

I am sharing my experiencing. They are very greedy, rude and exploitative. There was a minor scratch on the front bombper and he is asking me to pay 2500QR. I asked about the "full insurance" and they could not explain but insisted that I have to get police report and pay them 2500. The Honda garage was happy to repair in 500, but I don't want to get into the trap because despite the repair they may say, it is not upto their standard.

So please be away from this company

I also have bad experience with Country Rent a Car. I met with an accident and was told by them that I have to pay to have the car towed back to them although they advertised that breakdown services is included. What they failed to say is breakdown services is included at a price! I've rented cars in other countries and breakdown services including towing is part of the service rendered. It's a rental service afterall!

Stay away from them!

Don't rent in country rent a car

I would like to share my experience with "country rent a car" . Think twice before rent here and go through terms properly . Even for the small scratch to the car, you have to pay minimum 2500 Riyals . Initially while taking the car , they will say cars are fully insured . But finally you will end with paying fines . also you are responsible to get the police paper for fully insurance.

So finally i paid 3000 to get rid of things

So friends please carefull

These are my suggestion/advise only . Final call is yours.

Thanks for sharing.

There could be a reason behind this happening, I heard some people who rent cars for short time, drive very roughly until the tyres life finish!

May be you got the car just after that situation so you struggeled a lot.

Next time see the car tyres and rent!
