Attention: Legal Experts on Medical Malpractice
Just recently, a mutual friend narrated her story of how she became paralyzed from waist down after seeking treatment for a non-emergency case at HMC in Doha.
Confined at Women's Hospital for a few months only, she was then moved to a "hotel" owned and operated by the said state hospital within Medical City -- a building used as athlete's dorm way back in '06 during the Asian Games.
Transported routinely to and from Rumaillah Hospital's physical therapy facility by HMC's ambulance department, her condition remained the same -- she still cannot walk (non-ambulatory).
To her shock a few days ago, however, she was given her official discharge papers and told to leave the HMC hotel under threat of police arrest -- verbally relayed to her by harrassing HMC personnel at the hotel.
Her sponsor has not and will not cancel her visa despite her medical incapacity; and will even give her an NOC to find a new employer in Doha upon her full recovery.
In short, she has the full support of her sponsor.
She has already sent her personal representative to NHRC but a case was not even opened for her; rather, her proxy was advised to talk with HMC officials to work out some deal.
To any legal expert reading this appalling account: Please offer your best advise on behalf of this patient whose medical records are even kept confidential from her by the hospital.
As a patient, she has rights. And HMC seems to be covering up its erring physicians who caused her invalid condition.
A new client had just come in to see a famous lawyer.
"Can you tell me how much you charge?", said the client.
"Of course", the lawyer replied, "I charge $200 to answer three questions!"
"Well that's a bit steep, isn't it?"
"Yes it is", said the lawyer, "And what's your third question?"
