Any info on used BMW's?

A friend of mine is considering buying a used BMW 3 series, a model probably older than 2004 (so that rules out Mannai's pre-owned cars which are no older than 2004).

Does anyone have any experiences? Where is the best place to look? Is it a good buy? What about the cost of spare parts & maintenance?

Any good or bad experiences are welcome :)

The thing about al fardan pre owned cars is that they do a multi-point inspection and add a little warranty and thats what makes their pre-owned cars like 30-40% more expensive than if you bought it from a person or used showroom.

So is 30-40% more money worth the satisfaction of a car that works well and has a warranty?? I personally would say no...find a used BMW from a person or used showroom for cheaper and ask if u can have it inspected, take the car to a garage that works with BMW cars and has those pirated diagnostic machines, get it fully checked out for a few hundred ryals. If its in good condition then also go to Al-Fardan and ask for a printout of its past services and it will show u if it had accidents or major problems in the past.

This will cost u a few hundred ryals

The E 46 (1998-2005 models) 4 cylinder have tranmission problems. One should not put the vehicle in the sport mode (triptronic side) at high speeds- you will get a tranmission problem which will set you back around QR 20,000 for a new one. BMW is aware of this but will never inform you untill you get a problem. Try and get a 6 cylinder inline E46 models. Those are excellent and have less engine and tranmission problems than the 4 cylinder.Telling you from personal expeirence
