Abnormally Positive

Well, I'm quite new to qatar. But almost 1 year shud be enuf to know the people here.

Well.. I think I was wrong.

Today somehow proved me completely different.

For the past 11 months here, I have discovered every different, every possible way of getting bored. Movies, Books, Music, everything except pets maybe. But then I lost two cats. (One to death and the other thanks to an extraordinarily unhelpful house owner). Moved two houses already.  Its normal in this part of the world i guess. My collegues (both office and school) here religiously believe that life is a timetable with fun being a reserved pleasure for the insane few. My neighbours hide from me and when i go try to start a conversation they give me cold stares.

All in all, I hate my life. I had started living the timetable lifestyle.

So wat changed today??

Today was my day off. Taken off to walk the whole stretch of the corniche. It was fun for 5 mins maybe. Then i started crawling instead of the planned jogging (As usual).

And then...

A guy sitting there taking pictures (of the sun, i guess) started walking with me. Trying to make a talk. And maybe i must have looked that desperate too, becoz he asked me if I was new in qatar. "How long have u been here?" I asked back. "A long long time." came the answer. And so it started. We talked till we reached the place where his car was parked. Then like all guys he told me that he wud give me a ride"Show you qatar from my point of view." Show offs.

But there was a charm and honesty in this guy that made me say yes. I feared this decision for a long time. Maybe because the car looked like a Boys Hostel Room was somehow incoporated into it. Sucessfully. We did a little bit of browsing in Bidda 'Ipark'. Thats how I came here. I told him my hobby was reading and that I spent half my time at Jarir. "Oh Jarir is great, but you shud check out the competition too." He took me to Villagio. And we checked out Virgin Stores. "The greatest Bookstore in Qatar." It was almost 4 (we had started at 10). He took me behind the Sport city. "To the actual city" He was talking the whole time. About movies, music, life, work, love, friends, religion, politics. Everything seem to be interesting again. The sport city is a great place. Its almost like the corniche minus the sea breeze. He lived somewhere there he said. "Mayther area" "The landlords here are not as clever and hence as crooked as the ones in Doha. But I cant take you home, becoz my mom is orthodox and you look dangerous." Then we left off. Dont use the mobile phones while driving. But you can use a camera. The guy was shooting and driving. We got back to Doha streets. He kept on going about secret societies, crazy betting clubs, fun groups and even money making seminars people in qatar. Then he left me near my car, gave his no. (if I needed anything),

"If you look hard. you are bound to find fun. Look at Hitler for instance. I think he looked like charlie chaplin. And dear Bush. He looks like Mr Bean.(He hated Bush and considered Clinton the sexy one)"

So whats my point of saying all this...

Well, is this normal? The guy didnt even take my mobile no. Shud I call him? Is he a trap?

Rael, You supposed to be working in a magazine for entertinement. I can't answer your question, but I can see the narration skills and the converting a conversation into a story and finally making people think..Keep it up.
