Learn to appreciate
Would like to share with you guys a letter forwarded to me that truly touched my heart....
I write to inspire and to share. My husband is an OFW for 9 years. We experienced the same sadness, longing, conflicts that I think every OFW family undergoes. As a wife, I never fail to pray.
I think it is my responsibility to support my husband and make the situation easy for him. I don’t consider distance as an obstacle. For I know that when you really put an effort, and with the help of communication technology - “communicating" is not a problem.
There are times when marriage is being challenged, but I have instilled in my mind that whatever will happen, I will have to look back at the “good" things my husband has done to me and his daughter so that I will appreciate him and not hold grudges with a single mistake.
It is not about “playing" deaf and dumb to his mistakes, it is learning to appreciate. In that mistake, I appreciate the fact that it became a turning point for us to re-assess our marriage and to know where and at what point did “we" disappoint each other.
Almost every OFW story is heart breaking. Let us not forget to consider their situation, their loneliness that is twice what we felt; their longing, their difficulties. I think it is the duty of every family left at home (wives, parents and kids) to appreciate the money sent to them. Use it wisely.
Every OFW needs an anchor at home. They need support, don’t just text them or call them when you need money. Be generous with your time and concern. Learn to value what little opportunity you have right now, to let your OFW family know that whatever will happen HE IS WORTHY of your LOVE (more than the allotment!!!)…. And to the OFWs, learn to glance at the picture of your love ones everyday, and always recall the reason why you are there in that foreign land fighting for that illusive money.
Sincerely,
Bernadith
