DOHA: The commemoration of the 111th Philippine Independence Day by the Filipino community here will feature an exhibition on the rich Filipino heritage and the Filipinos who have contributed to the development of Qatar.
“One of the unique features of this year’s celebration will be an exhibition called WOW Philippines, to be held at the Hyatt Plaza mall. This exhibition will showcase not only interesting places to visit in the Philippines and its rich cultural heritage but also the achievements of Filipino residents here as they contribute actively in the progress of the host country,” said Willie de los Santos, chairman of the Philippine Independence Organising Committee (PINOC 2009).
The events in store on June 12 include a day-long cultural show to be held at Hyatt Plaza and a concert by local Filipino bands at the Philippine International School Qatar.
Details of the extravaganza will be finalised as soon as the participants confirm their involvement, de los Santos told The Peninsula.
Another activity planned in connection with the celebrations is a beach cleaning event to be held on June 5 along Mesaieed and Al Wakra, which will see participation by hundreds of Filipinos, said de los Santos.
Around 40 organisations under the Filipino Community Organisations’ Alliance and the Philippine Embassy are working hand in hand to ensure the success of the Independence Day celebrations.
