Nagsumbong sa Human Rights Commission si Manila Secretary to the Vice Mayor Bernardito Ang, matapos na dumanas ng pambabastos at pang-iinsulto mula sa empleyado ng Cathay Paci­fic na nakatalaga sa check-in counter nito sa NAIA Terminal 1 noong Agosto 21 kung saan papunta siya ng Hongkong kasama ang kanyang kaibigan na si Wilfredo Sistorias.

Nabatid na alas-2:30 pa lamang ng madaling-araw nang dumating sa NAIA Terminal 1 si Ang at nang magbukas ang counter dakong alas-kuwatro ng madaling-araw ay agad niyang pinaki­usap na makapuwesto siya malapit sa pintuan ng eroplano at madaling makapunta sa lababo bunga na rin ng kanyang kapansa­nan.

Si Ang ay may kapan­sanan dahil ipinanganak itong may polio at dumanas ng stroke.

Gayunman, sinabihan siya ng isang nakilalang ‘Pearl’, empleyado ng Cathay Pacific na hindi nila maibibigay ang hiling ni Ang at maghintay na lamang.

Matapos ang isang oras na paghihintay, ibinigay kina Ang at Sistorias ang kanilang boarding pass at laking gulat ni Ang nang sabihin ni ‘Pearl’ na hindi umano siya puwedeng pahiramin ng wheelchair ma­ging paggamit ng kanyang personal na wheelchair na indikasyon na kailangan nitong laka­rin ang boarding gate.

Ayon kay Ang, hiniling niyang makausap ang station manager subalit sinabi sa kanya ng mga empleyado na ayaw nitong bumaba.

Ayon kay Ang, co-founder ng Philippine Councilors’ League, 5-termer na Manila third district Counci­lor at may akda ng Manila’s tax code, pagdating niya ng Hongkong ay nakahanda na ang wheelchair assistance niya na taliwas naman sa trato ng mga nasa NAIA Terminal 1.

Idinagdag pa ni Ang na ininsulto, pinahiya at nagkaroon ng diskriminasyon sa kanyang pagkatao na paglabag sa Magna Carta para sa mga may kapansanan.
