Yard Sale and Dealers

Oryx warned me about this. She said that with a lot of these yard sales, professional dealers barge their way in a half hour before the start and buy up everything. Obviously I don't want that to happen in my sale, as there are quite a few QL'ers coming to it. I had a guy calling me tonight (not through the QL ad, but from the posters my wife put up in a couple of supermarkets) and he was begging me to let him come to the house tonight to buy all the books! Cheeky twat. I have a note of his number now so I'm not going to answer when he calls again. Any other suggestions? Maybe I can start the sale a half hour early for people from QL?

good idea 'cos at 2pm you'll be at the American School Sale!

This happened at the last Table Top sale I went to... they said the time..I arrived as others did...all gone.. annoying and people then don't want to go to others.

Doha Steve is just having a bit of fun.. Dweller's policy is a good one.

It really wouldn't be fair on the other QL'ers who are coming. Sorry.

Keep your eye on stuff if the dealers are there.

We saw a load of clothes walking out that hadn't been paid for when we had a sale.

The dealers will try and get the stuff for nothing. We specifically advertised "no dealers" and if we spotted a dealer (or suspected that someone was a dealer) we asked them to leave.

What we didn't sell we gave to the maintenance staff and labourers on the compound.

That's what I'll do - give everybody else an hour to shop before the dealer gets his mitts on whatever is left

Good morning - no it is not like that - many from the sub continets are interested to make business an QL is not dealing they are selling privately.

I think that would be a lovely idea. I've seen those dealers that do that...makes me angry that they come in and swipe up all the good things so that they can resell them at a higher price to others, while those folks that want to shop end up with the left overs.

Stick to your guns, and don't let him in early...OR>>> you could say sure...and just bring the books only out on the porch, priced like he would at his store...most likely he will argue with you that they are too much...lol

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

I think you are wrong - he wants to sell to people and not a market where they will earn money on what he has sold.

Don't you get it or are all your minds programmed for the ultimate business deal?????

hmm isnt the point of having this yard sale exactly that..to get rid of what u dont want? i mean if someone is willing to buy all ur books for the price u want whats the big deal? just tell him to come when u are having the sale and not before...heck if you were sellign something i really wanted so bad i might have been camping outside ur house ;)
