Why should i lose my 25 dirhams?

How many of you make sure that you have your exact change?. Every time i demand my 25 dirhams back(this supermarket cashier's doesn't even bother to give chewing gum) the reaction of the cashier is as though am commiting some crime, since i have noted their practice of doesn't wanted to give change, i always make sure that i get my exact change back.

you did the math and judge those cashiers..

a single complain to their management will address your concerns don't you think???

It is a bad, bad practice for retail shops (big or small) not to give the exact change to customers. Even giving a chewing gum (which is usually unchewable) in lieu of that 25 dirhams change is not acceptable at all because they are forcing the customers to buy something that they didnt want. Try paying your bill with 25 dirhams short of the total amount and they wont accept it. So it is just right to demand every dirham from them.

Collect all the chewing gums and use them to pay for something next time :D

1 loaf of multi-cereal bread: 30 chewing gums please.

I beg to dis-agree, excess tenders/cash go to the management not to the cashiers, at the end of every shifts cashier have to face an accountant for the sale reconcilement that then monitored in their internal system so its very imposible for them to pocket even a single cent. but if there's cash shortage cashiers will pay.

mohdali as you mentioned they have the change but not ready to give unless you demand.

Last resort : Count the bill of your purchase your self and buy or leave one more item so that total bill comes near xx.80 to xx.90 , this way you can have a benefit of saving approx 15 Dirhams on all your about 48 visits / year to supermarkets & you stand to gain a good amount in 5 years.

chota_sanki, in this way, bought a RADO watch last Eid !

God bless all !!

just remembered three or four years back there was a report on this in gulf times / peninsula don't know.....i'm just talking from memory...the report said Qatar had around 1 or 2 million in coins circulation!!! again i repeat i'm saying this from memory the actual amount may be less!!!

and the sweets they give for this change are not even worth it!!!! once from shop rite the cashier didn't have change of 2.5 QR and she offered me that useless batook chewing gum!!! would you believe that???? i asked her what on earth are you saying???? you don't have change 2.5 QR. her reply was take it or leave it!!! that was her only reply coz after that i brought down the whole shop rite till i got 2.5 qr back....

it was hard earned money and i had just started my first job, hence the frustration.

but still now also i don't allow things like this....

I for one stay in line and demand the change! i'll see if i have any if not i demand it from them and will not move away until i get my exact change. i have seen lots of customers do the same...this frequently happens in lulu, ffc, shop rite and carrefour...i think i listed all the major supermarkets!!! :P

Hello, I noticed this myself. But I think this is more about taking the 25 dirhams as a "tip". I don't mind if it is. But rough calculation = if 100 people pass through one cashier point (and am sure more do) we are looking at a extra 550QR per month for the cashier (0.25x100X22 non-weekend days=550).

They should be waiving that change and giving back the balance.. if they dont have change its their own problem,

The Al Meera in Freej Bin Omran doesn't return 25 / 50 dhs but has a poster at every cash counter that mentions " 25 / 50 dhs change will be donated to charity".

cherukkan its not about carrying the change with me, they know that they are liable to give my money but prefer to be silent. For eg: If my bill is 97.75 they'll give me 2QR as change and immediately starts to bill the next customer, only if i ask for the change they are ready to give (so they have enough 25 dirhams with them).

MM this is not the way of paying back, the cashier doesn't need to take my money by fooling me and yeah as cherukkan said calculate how much they are going to make simply by not returning the exact change.

Well as far I know the shops have to give you the change back as otherwise it is a punishable offense, one can complain to the police, it has been announced officially, but I don't know if the police will have time to run for 25 dirhams, he would also say to forget it, but it is punishable by the law, as per law

Now in some supermarkets, they are giving option to donate your 25/50 dirham change to Qatar Charity, if they don't have change. Al Meera and Food center already started this.

Go back into time......may be......when you was very very young kid.....you had taken...so many coins....from your parents/neighbours/relatives/shopkeepers/teachers

/elders....as a kind gestuer....to make you happy when

......you would start weeping for anything.....[ that is normally called throwing tantrums ]...check with some of them if that is true ??? !!!

Isn't it time to pay back ??? Ask yourself & yes.... wonder !!!

One should ask always, if not given exact amount back as it is his/her right!

shisha, you are right. The cashiers are trying to be over smart to take 25 or 50 dirhams from each customer that way and if they get enough then they will start leaving 25 or even 50 dirhams. If they collect 25 dirhams from 100 customers a day it will make 25 Riyals.

Do you think that this collection is going to the accounts of the Supermarket? No way, the cashiers will give only the exact amount to the accounts and will keep the rest with them.

25 dirhams are also hard earned and if gone for free

.25 daily = qr 7. 5 per month loss

.50 daily = qr 15 per month loss

the last time i asked for my 25 dirham change, i was given a whole 1 riyal without a fuss.

this means that atleast 3 people were not given their 25 dirhams back for such a generous hand out, imagine the rest!

Now a days I am always carrying two coins (50/25)in my pocket while going for shopping as it is normal to get a question from the cashier who does not keep enough change.
