Qatar charges customs duty for DSLR camera importing from ebay?

By hanasah2013 •
Hi,
I would like to import a DSLR camera with bundle items from USA through ebay online. The goods willl be delivered by USPS Priority Mail Express International. Cost of the camera is 670 USD and shipping charge except customs clearance mentioned by USPS is 99.99 USD.
Package size will be approx. 60cm x 35 cm x 30 cm (LxWxH).
Could you guys please suggest me does this item will cost me duty on delivery? if yes, how much it would be?
Please give me a reply asap. Logistics guys and who are working in customs shall reply with a good experience.
Regarding your concern I can say that the duty is fixed as 5% (as far as i know upto 2500 USD). And related to my purchase i had chose to buy from Dubai (souq.com) and shipped it from Dubai to Doha. And I suggested the seller to send me the item as gift (actuallly it is illegal to request the seller so. bz gift items doesnt have to pay duty). Althought he described the contents in the packing list and i was not sure whether it has come as gift or as described in the packing list, i have not paid any duty!!!
Hi any update on the actual duty/taxes that you have been paid?
And what if I want to buy more than 1,373.00 USD amount of let say DSLR? Do I need to pay more than 5%?
Thanks for this useful topic.
In details, for my above mentioned camera worth 670 USD, i will have to pay the duty amount 142 QAR in round figure. this is the duty for the CIF Doha. ie. 670(Cost)+4(Insurance)+100(Freight)=774. and rate of exchange is 1USD=3.65020 QAR. Therefore 5% of 774 USD (774x3.65020)x5%=141.26274 QAR.
In addition to this. there will be a legalization charge which you can find in the below link.
http://www.qatarembassy.net/page/legalization-of-legal-and-commercial-documents
Calcualation is as per below.
for CIF commercial invoice value less than $ 1,373.00, the charge of legalization will be 28 $ + legalization charge for country of origin is 42 $. So total 70$ is legalization charge for CIF Value less than $ 1,373.00

Hi yacine.h
Thank you so much for all your info. :) it was really helpful although i still have to confirm with aramex for the return policy. Once i checked, i will update it here for others reference. :)
I think it is 10USD now. It was 45 before but they have been running an offer and I think it is still going on
Hi yacine.h
Thanks for your valuable responses. One more question, what is the registration fee for aramex?
With Aramex, if you are shipping fro example from the US, the item is delivered to a US address (that belongs to Aramex). Once it reaches that address, the Aramex staff will ship it to Qatar. It takes up to 4 or 5 days to come to Qatar. You will pay in all 40 or 50 dollars depending on the weight of the package.
I don't know about the return policy in case it comes thorugh Aramex, but it is a good point and you might want to discuss it with Aramex. They are good and if you go to them in Abu Hamour they will explain to you everything.
Sorry i mentioned wrongly DDU. i meant to say DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) not DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid)
I have not shipped the item yet. And i am really not well aware of Aramex service. Do they ship as DDU basis (ie. Delivered Duty Paid) ? And my main concern is that, if i would buy it in aramex address, how i will be able to return the shipping within 14 days if the item delivered defective?
You pay on items exceeding 5000 QAR. In this instance it is not the case. Also, as mentioned above, you made a very bad decision with the shipping. You could have got it here for less than 40USD
i have ordered many times upto 900 us dollars..but never paid any duty...as long as its for personal use dont think they charge duty.......
He asked about import duties. - When I buy car spare-parts from the US there is no import tax. That's all I can say.
USPS is too expensive. Go for Aramex Shop & Ship.
