Is it right that we are actually going to be able to buy a bit of bacon and a good sausage here in Doha.  Can anyone tell me who and when will be selling - which supermarkets?

Dammed arrogant Bird.

My ham legs are more sexier than those wrinkle, skinny, odd looking legs of you Miss Bird.

Nothing wrong with Turkey Ham especially if it's smoked.

LOL! I reckon "firstar124" thinks Turkey Ham is just Ham from Turkey.

Turkey Ham, is not ham it is Turkey just cured. We ate a lot of it growing up. Please don't boycott Carrefour. :-)

Keep dreaming of me, because, I'm the other White meat.

Don't you miss me?

People who have lived here more than forty years will agree. We (or atleast my parents) used to buy it. If I remember right, there used to be a shop (Cold store) next to Habib Bakery in electricity street.

The pork at the base is available only to ration card holders, as what I understand. Better to have the pork spare ribs cooked and eaten there than take the trouble of bringing it off base and trouble to cook. Just luv it with the sauce they use.

Booze was available a long time ago and then it was rationed. And now in the past couple of years QDS has made it commercial (in terms of availability and pricing). The same may happen for pork products as well.

Just hope for the best.

Canuk, we all know it is illegal, as it was before in UAE and Bahrain. But now they legalized it for non-muslims. What happens here is that there are never ending rumours that it will be legalized and available in Qatar as well.

If you did any research before oyu arrived here, you should have known that Pork is illegal here so why are you now desperately searcing for it?? Maybe one day you will be able to buy it, but until then I think you just have to accept that it's not available.

I believe you still could find a bit of good bacon and lots of sausages. Let me as k Miss Piggy.

Hey Miss Piggy! Yes, Darling, What do you want from me? Miss Chrissy wants a piece of bacon and sausages made of Pork.

Tell Miss Chrissy that she could greasy her mouth and hands with that kind of joke with some valient guy in a Hotel in San Francisco. But leave DOHA out of the question

Actully when I was at carefour, I was buying some stuff from the deli and I noticed they had something called "Turkey Ham".

I immedatiely thought how come, this can not be right. Because I know if this was ham they should have to make it clear for people, so that muslims do not mistaknely buy it.

But quite frankly now i am wonderin if this was ham or not!!!

I think somebody should go to carefour and check out the deli:)

I'm Miss Piggy giving you directions to any Doha Supermarket. Grab your stroller and follow me in the halls and display's of different meat shelves. If you could find me, then I will be give you a new car.

Sincerely

Miss. Piggy

For years Doha has survived on rumours. It's also governed by rumours. It's leaked and if there is a bad response then it doesn't happen. No response and it will happen.

The issue of booze was the same. Larry Belsito, manager of the Gulf Hotel (Is it the Marriot now?) told me in 1984 that they were considering licencing the restaurants. It didn't actually happen until late 1995.

I had a friend who brought a piglet in on a lead and said it was a dog but customs didn't buy it.

Chrissy, it is wishful thinking. Every 2 months someone on this forum swears by his mother that he can confirm that pork will be in the stores from the next month, that IKEA is about to open a department inside Al Safeer, and that Modern Home will abandon its business and will start selling books. People a just so desperate for it, they start beleiving into what they want to happen will happen.
