nightmare experience in lulu-A MUST READ

THE UGLY SIDE OF EVERYONES FAVOURITE LULU

The ugly side is with one of the purchases we made there last month. Since the lulu hypermarket opened in Qatar we have been shopping there at least once a month for almost all our grocery and other needs too. To get everything under one roof at low prices the first thing that comes to almost everyones mind is LULU.

And so we bought a ZOJIRISHI flask along with other grocery items on 24th january. On using we found the water doesn’t stay at boiling point overnight. the boiling point temperature reduces and the water starts getting warm ONLY. As for the ZOJIRISHI brand we r sure that water stays at boiling point even for 48 hrs. we have been using this brand for many years and know its performance. And so decided to exchange it. On taking it to lulu the customer service man said he will test it and then let us know. The next day we went and he said the water is warm so he cant exchange it. As we were not satisfied with the flask we asked for an exchange so he told us to see Mr. basheer from the purchasing. He said he will contact the supplier and get back to us.But again no response from them. After some weeks we ourselves went there to enquire and they said the supplier has refused to exchange whereas they had still not contacted the supplier which we came to know later on. On arguments and protest Mr. basheer was rude and told us he will see to it that we don’t get an exchange. Then another customer service guy ( Palestinian ) came and was very polite and said he will call us after looking into the matter.

After 2 days we got a call from the zojirishi salesman Mr.shafi in Qatar BLUE SALOON. He asked us the matter and HIMSELF agreed that zojirishi is guaranteed to keep water at boiling point for at least 12 hrs or even more. He also said that he got a call from LULU just yesterday about this matter whereas they informed us wrong. He promised to clear this matter himself with lulu and give us an exchange. For many days no response from him again. We ourselves tracked him down calling BLUE SALOON. And this time Mr.Shafi was a changed person. He said he cannot do anything about the whole matter which we r sure is cause of pressure from Mr.Basheer from lulu.

Again we went to lulu and this time talked to the manager himself . On talking to him about the system of complaints or exchange in a hypermarket he got very annoyed. He said he will test the flask and let us know. After 2 days we received a call from lulu that there is no exchange and to take our old flask back and this was on the 6th of march.

For almost 50 days our purchased flask is with them …with no follow up from them in the whole matter.

All this incidents has made us to think should we make our purchases at  THE GREAT LULU HYPERMARKET …when they cant guarantee their commodities. Also such bad behaviour with the customer….it is really shamefull.

Also once we had purchased fresh chicken from lulu during eid-ul-adha. On coming home and checking it the chicken smelled of bleach and had changed colour. We returned It to lulu that moment but now we think we should have called up the Food control officer instead.

I also want to appericiate the other hypermarkets in Qatar who have really taken care of their customers and have really shown the decency of following a system of rules in hypermarkets.

1) DASMAN hypermarket…..we had purchased a Black and Decker water kettle and found leakage in it after using it at home and returned it in 2 days. With no harassment to the customer they exchanged it for us to a even different brand we were happy with.

2) CARREFOUR hypermarket….very good service from them ….the customer service counter too solves any problems then and there and they themselves get back to us on a complaint and assure that we r happy with them. They give so much value to a customer unlike LULU.

3) GIANT STORES ….we r very happy with them too…the customer service people have been very good to us on our complaints ….they themselves had solved our complaints and saw to it that we return with a smiling face from their hypermarket.

Lulu should not call itself a hypermarket as customers discomfort or dissatisfaction is not important from them. Instead of taking care of the customers dissatisfaction it has taken care of its own employes dissatisfaction.

This is really strange. I have no issues with Lulu at all. If any of their products had a default, the customer service crew took only 5 minutes to get into the matter and re-direct me to exchange the old ones for anything else I was much happier with (I only had exchanges done for clothes though, as all their  meat, eatables, electronics and kitchen appliances had absoluetly no issues).I strangely like the customized Pizza that I get everytime I go there for grocery shopping too.About the helpers in Lulu, even they were sweet to me like ALWAYS! If I couldnt find anything that I wanted or even without asking I used to get helpers to direct me to where it was. I also got free stuff like extra toppings for my Pizza or extra pieces of Chicken with whatever meal my sis took.  What I dont like though is the crowd of customers. Its like this huge Indian association with no moral values, following and stalking young girls. Winking, flirting, loud comments while passing, these things are what makes me think twice on entering Lulu. Owh and how can I ever forget the staring, like they could look through my clothes and also screaming out numbers thinking I give a damn -___-

I went to LuLu to buy a cordless phone and an Iron.Cordless Phone is in the Electronics Section, and Iron was in appliances. Both are on the same floor, about 30-40 feet away from each other. I picked out a phone, and proceeded to pickup an Iron. A security guard stopped me from going into the appliances section. He said I could not take a product from electronics to appliances. This is an open-plan store, there are no signs to this effect or any such notice. It was late afternoon on a weekday. It wasnt even particularly busy. I told him to call his supervisor and continued on my way.Security supervisor came, I explained what I was doing, he said okay fine and left.I got my stuff and checked out, I found a manager, and expressed my unhappiness over a ridiculous policy. He said, thats the store policy bla bla bla, and actually continued to argue with me. I said it was a stupid policy and that he should tell his managment that an unhappy customer complained about this policy and maybe they should re-examine it. Would you believe it, the chap contunued to argue with me some more, and there were about 10 or 12 people at the cashiers just listening in to what was going on. A bit of entertainment for them I guess. Now, most normal managers would explain the reason for the policy, apologise for the inconvenience and promise to improve their service for the next time I shopped.I used to be an exclusive LuLu shopper because they had everything at fair prices, despite being horribly busy. I now go to any other supermarket first before going to LuLu.

there is no smoke if there's no fire. complaints are a natural reaction especially when you're not contented to some things that you don't deserve. of course, u anticipate complains if one consumer didn't meet his/her expectation. we've been a consumer, all of us here. and it doesn't mean that the said complaint from one consumer needs symphaty to demoralize Lulu or like anybody else. we 'must' take his/her comment a constructrive criticism becuae she/he warned improved everything.

i also experience maltreating by the salesman/s in Lulu but i often comfronted them. i often says that their service is poor but when u speak to filipinos... they're all pleasing & can always accomodate all the customer's request & complains. they will do the best they can just to satisfy the customer. even in other hypermarkets/boutiques/banks services/etc., filipinos are different in treating & handling customers. try to compare! and accept the fact that we filipinos, we valued our character and we're all born accomodating and pleasing.

LuLu is insane.  But so many people shop there that bad customer service wouldn't matter to them.  Generally, sincere & effective customer care is a concept that hasn't penetrated Qatar businesses YET.  It is high time for penetration.

The whole of Doha suffers from poor customer service and poor customer relations this is a fact.

Consumers have a right to be protected and consumers have a right to complain about service.

There have been quit a few threads about how Asian customer are treated but this goes for Westerners too.

What I dislike about the Supermarkets is how they go about giving small change - now this might be nothing as far as 25 Dirhams is concerned but going through 30.000 - 50.000 customers in a day this makes profit.

I bought some food last night in Carrefour and silly me paid in cash - the cashier did not even mention that she could not give me Dhs 25 back nor did she offer me a bubble gum. I would like to remind all that this is plain and untter theft of your hard earned cash even if it is a small amount. Lulu is forcing the same habit on the customers "no small change" for those living on a low income even the small change is a blessing.

It is high time that the consumer protection in Qatar took a stand to these practices and also the Chamber of Commerce for the delivery of faulty goods. This is practiced because they know thatthe consumer here has no other choice hece the price hikes etc.

Damaged and/or faulty goods have and must be exchanges and the consumer has rights - if the consumer does not complain nothing will change.

If I go to the supermarket around the corner I get my goods exchanged without a word and I get my small change - what's wrong with the big boys and the dishonesty.  Ah Oh I forgot dishonesty pays here big time.

Somebody send this issue to Gulf Times "Letter to Editor". Trust me this is the best way to bring Lulu Management's attention on their poor customer service.

I do feel sorry for the bad experience. I a regular shopper, I do face problems. One thing I find is that lulu always responds to customer complaint and takes quick action even if it is on an email. The appropriate forum to address such grievances in my opinion is either the customer relations department of the companies, and if the solution is not to ones satisfaction. One can always approach department of consumer affairs, or municipal authorities, you could even file a police complaint if you don’t get a replacement for damaged goods.

What I suspect is that there is a group of lulu haters here in QL who runs repeated hate campaigns against lulu. And it is the same people in all the posts.

I am amused to see the opening lines “lets boycott lulu, lulu is the worst place in Doha to shop” what is happening here. I also request everyone here to refrain from racial and ethnic references. It is distressed to see comments like, only keralites go there, only Indians collies go. Please do not hijack QL to settle business rivalries.

adding to that..I am an Indian too...but pls do not further create the wrong impression on Indians...this thread has nothing to do to racsism...or any kind of racial discriminations....

why has an opinion about not liking lulu suddenly turned into a race thread. Some like lulu some dont ..its a simple as that, and people have a right to complain about a service/store...

For the record i went once and in comparison to what i buy i didnt find it cheaper at all and even if it is personally i would rather go to a store where theres room to move withou pushing and shoving, is organised even if i have to pay more and this has nothing to do with Asians....each to their own..

I wonder now a days QL is filled with complaints................  especially against LULU. Since it starts its operations in Qatar myself is a regular customer in LULU, some times am also having some difficulties from there but this are commen, if you go any supermarkets you will expereience the same.

One thing i can tell you guys that definitly the prices are less than other stores. i have expereinced several times. The proof of the same is the packed crowd seven days of the week.

And i doubts that some agents from other shops intentionally posting negetivly to help the others and simply fooling their customers.

Very sad to hear all these experiences with such a trusted(by coustomers) supermarket LULU, I am sure that the higher managment is not knowing about all these stories and the owner, Keralite, Indian, Mr.Yousef Ali may never had heard about any of these complaints.

Anyways what I am going to do is to trace out his e-mail ID or phone number and will let him know about these issues, earlier also I learned a bad experience from LULU coustomer. My request to all the family in Qatar is to avoid LULU, don't go there, once the sales come down the higher managment will come to picture.

To be sure, the staffs under the label of Manager / Supervisor in Qatar LULU may be just a cleaner or deliver boy earlier and so his standard of dealing with the coustomers will of lower standard only. I am not hurting anyone but thatz true, he may be manager /supervisor only coz he is a Keralite or thru VASTA(reccomendation).

Letz all try to get these complaints redirected to the higher managment through aproper channel & let this come in GULF TIMES too. If we all stay together we can make things happen, believe me.

STOP GOING TO THE LULU SUPERMARKETS, ADVICE OTHERS TOO...

GOOD DAY TO ALL.

i had a prob with jumbo, though they took long but it was changed & a new piece replaced.

if anyone cares to, you can call the lulu phone line, ask for customers service and just make a verbal complain to them that theres been lots of people complaining about their servvices...at least if like a hundred people call them today saying the same thing, then they might at least educate all their staff on how to deal with customers ... i just got the number from q. tel (4673404) please do this if you care... thanks ...

the bottomline here is that lulu hypermarket is the worst place to shop in doha, went there a couple of times with my family and we were so grossed out . very dirty environment, and rude staff. i  do my shopping now from careffour, not perfect but better than any other shopping center in doha.... if you are reading this, and you are in charge of lulu daily runnings , please make sure something is done about your business, so customers will be happier to shop there... thanks.....

i'm sorry to hear about that. i also have the same problem, but its actually from carrefour.

on the begining of december i bought a mobile phone sony ericsson p1i. after a week of using it, the touch screen does not work any more. so i went back to the carefour and ask them to replace it. but they said they want to sent it for repairing. i got so pissed of because just used the phone for a week and its for sure a technical problem (cause thats what they said) and they want to send it for repair? so after 3 days going back and arguing they replace my phone sony ericssson p1i but this time its an arabic keyboard, it is just crazy, they're reason was that no more english keyboard on stock. so after a while of arguing. they said as soon as the english keyboard is on stock, they promise to called me to replace my phone, so i can used the arabic keyboard first..

mid of this month i did not recieve a phone call from them, and i've been callling them over and over again and it seems that their ignoring my phone calls, so i decided to go and have a look my self and it turns out they have the stock, so i ask them to replace it and now their saying its not possible???????

is this how they treat their customers? by lieing to them? by saying this that they want to hear but didn't actually ment what their saying? what kind of services is this? now this phone is useless for me, i was planning to sell it on QL a couple of months ago, but i thought it would not be fair to the people who wants to buy it so i decided not to sell it..but with carefour, once they get on my nerve...i'm going to kick their butt...i'm so pissed off with them..
