Impedimenta thnks for ur very comforting and to the point reply. yes doha is not dubai but it is not at all EXPAT friendly.if it wants to develop and grow fast as it has planned to then it should have a welcoming attitude towards EXPATS making them comfortable as regards the rents the basic comforts and amenities. the normal tendency we have is to make some money and leave majority i knw would never want to settle here all thier life coz it does not give u the warm friendly feeling. this is my personal opinion and i dont intend to force it on others

It is but natural for someone coming here for the very first time to experience either negative or positive reactions to the place but to malign or speak rudely to the person is so unbecoming.

Doha isnt exactly Dubai but yes it has its nice places too. It is a place that will eventually grow on you. Initial teething issues will be there but its there every time one goes to any new place.

So just swim with the tide and all will be fine.

Give it time dear, give it time.  Like every city they all have there good points and bad points.  Doha is going through many changes and is few years behind Dubai, but i'm sure after the authorities get in decent planners (forward thinking people - with time and people management skills) things will look up.

Ya the malls in Dubai are better.  I mean come on, you can go scuba diving and skiing in them!  However, the sad thing is that in Dubai your life revolves around shopping and the malls, the great thing about Qatar is that your life doesn't have to revolve around a mall.  Go to Souk Waqif, The Pearl, The Cultural Village, the Museum of Islamic Art, the parks, the Corniche, etc.  These are all things that Dubai doesn't have!

Its the first thing we say.....  Go home if you dont like it. 

But its probably the most basic and fundamental answer to any complaint in any country.

If you dont like the company you work for, leave (whatever the circumstances), if you dont like the malls (dont go there), if you dont like arabic food (dont eat it), if you dont like the government (well, then certainly dont protest it but ..... then again, its not YOUR government)

The malls are a small part of Qatar....  Im still a bit amazed we are having this conversation about the malls and comparing Dubai and Qatar.

Im the first one to not bash because some of the members here immediately start talking crap about Qatar and the members on QL for any comment.

But honestly, do you really want to compare Qatar to Dubai? First of all, the demographics are VERY different (with a much higher western ratio - i.e. spending more money... than Qatar)... secondly, Villagio is actually quite nice. Mall of Emirates only has 2 things going for it... more shops and a ski slope.... the rest... its the same zombies.

What I do see more of here is family life and people shopping and coffee and whatever. Look outside your narrowed view and see Qatar for what it is. Otherwise, go home. All of us have that option.

Qatar is actually pretty cool. Find a reason to enjoy it so you dont feel like you are wasting your life away. Otherwise, sorry for you and your attitude.

You have to see everything here as perfect as paradise. otherwise, you will face endless bashing similar to the above. Where the typical "Go home", "what about your own country" "you are here because you are a begger as well as your entire country".

Look at the positive side. Boring Malls mean less time in Malls, means less spending and more savings.Which means you can save and fly to more exotic places and do your shopping there as well as have a holiday! My next vacation is in Kerala Gods own Country and the land of Lungi..:)
