hi evryone I can see that every one is waiting and excited about the opennig of the new Ikea store,I just registered to inform you that it will open for sure at the end 2012. If I'm so sure it's because I'm working in Ikea Dubai and the store manager will be one of our managers here in dubai and I'm planning to move to Qatar In Cha Allah so if you need any infos about Ikea please do not hesitate ;-)
lets be positive there is no option. one fine day it might drill into the concerned peoples head nd thy will realise tht expats need to be made comfortable for them to develop a liking for the otherwise dull slow city
On a serious note, Ikea are recruiting for different positions within the store. Alfutaim Group is the managing company, and I heard they will open next year.
I have a friend who knows someone who was a camal herder. One of his camels was rented to make the transfer of the IKEA goods past the Saudi border. He said they finally took care of the diplomatic issues, and the camel convoy of 250 camels are making their way to Doha as we speak.
Along the way they will stop in certain towns for advertising the opening day in 2014. If the building is not complete by the time the camal convoy arrives, they will by pass Doha, and move their operations to Bahrain.
Surely if they arrive here, like anything else that comes here, they will suffer from shortage of goods, most items on their big catalogue will be barred out because on non-availability of stock...etc ...ohh forgot to mention that it will prob cost twice as much as anywhere else in the world.
What's not acceptable is the fact that they've been trying to come here for almost a decade now but because of how SLOWLY things move in this town, they STILL aren't here...i'll believe it's here when i'm physically in the store...
The truckloads of furnitures, utensils & household items are on there way to Doha....but they were unable to clear the Saudi customs, so they set up camp at Saudi Salwa Border and did a garage sale.....I heard it was super hit! Cleared all stuffs at 50% price.
But there was a minor glitch in the begining! As people travel by camel in these parts the flat packs had to be converted to inverted conical packs to allow for the humps!
