Buy Furniture in Europe or Qatar?

We will be moving to Doha soon and there are a few pieces of furniture we need to replace (paio furniture, dining table and chairs, outdoor grill and a few electronics).

Can anyone tell me if it is better/cheaper to buy those things in Europe (with VAT tax) and ship them in our container or better to wait and buy them there?

I am not looking for high end expensive stuff, more like Ikea quality / price.

look at a company called origins, check out their websites: www.originsliving.com or www.originsalfresco.com or www.originssofas.com

There are a couple of shops where you can buy furniture and they are quite inexpensive. Mostly made in China etc. Also no tax. Many expats come and go and sell their furniture at reduced cost and often the furniture is not old at all. To have an idea, check the classifieds here on QL. The same goes for appliances, which are cheaper here to begin with. Do a little homework. Maybe your maximum is my minimum? Only you know the answer to that. Good luck.

Electronics can be bought here for a good price, same for garden furniture. If you are looking for mid-range IKEA furniture for the dining room, do buy them in europe. There is nothing here even close to IKEA, and furniture is VERY expensive in DOHA (if you do not intend to buy the very cheap one or the one that tries to look rich...)
