I would certainly vote for the Honda Civic as a good choice, but if you are looking at resale value... Toyota always have the upper hand as well as spare are cheaper.
it depends upon your range. Honda Accord is my favourite if you want a luxury drive. Toyota is good and market car but its drive is not luxury as Accord. You can compare it. Moreover, Toyota's after sales service is pathetic but Honda's is good indeed.
If your budget is not enough that much then Civic will be good choice. American car are very comfortable but mechanical they are not good.

The Resale Vale of Car......
The Maintenance Cost.........
The Fuel COnsumptions............
Cost of Spares that does not purse u much........
Not a sophiscated mechanism that makes difficult for anybody to uderstand other than car companies
Of course , engine , body style , features , color, etc...

Accord? Better with a Camry ;o)
C'mon guys next you'll be telling him to buy a Ferrari.
He's asked for two low end cars. At least have the decency to pick one of them.
For me, the Honda engines are better, but Toyota have better styling. Go try them and decide for yourself which suits you.
you better test drive both to see how you feel about the handling and ergonomics. Also it's more of what you feel like fun to drive.
for me... none of the above are fun, yes they can get you u from once place to another.
Honda Accord is the best go 4 it.........
