Work Visa in Doha Qatar

Greetings,
I am an American woman working as a teacher for a preschool here in Doha Qatar. I have done the finger printing and medical and was just told that I needed to get my documents authenticated, but it must be in my own country! Now my temp visa of 90 days has expired. My company did not tell me that this was needed, they actually did not know the process (very unprofessional). I heard that my company can request a one year extension, to give me time to return to the USA on my vacation to get all this done. My question is Is this possible? My company has wasted my four months, I was just presented a contract 2 weeks ago (I started working for them in Jan, lol), which was not signed, because they made a big salary mistake. They provided a new contract, this one I did sign. Who is responsible for paying my overstay fine? Do I have any other options?

Thank you

No, everything needs to be done, no getting around these requirements. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get an RP here in Doha, sometimes I wonder when the "it's not worth it" line will be crossed. The people with the best qualifications will always have other options that might become more attractive if Qatar becomes too much of a hassle.

Thank you all for your answers. I was employed in UAE, approved work visa there and with just my copies of certificates.. Why is Qatar so difficult? To my understanding, they need Expats here, especially teachers! Is it who you know here, that can get things done without all that stamping, time and money?

Again, I appreciate all your replies...God Bless ;-D

You can send your documents (have them sent) to an expediter in the US. Takes about a month and costs about $500. Yes, there is a clause for a one year RP pending document attestation but my impression is that your company mandoub will need a lot of wasta to pull this one off. You will have to do a visa run every two months until your RP comes through. Good luck getting your employer to pay for it, most contracts say that they are not responsible if you cannot meet the RP requirements. Bahrain Air and Air Arabiya are the cheapest, I think.

Does anyone know that the Qatar immigration would accept the attested documents by DC and UAE. I had them done when working in Dubai. Thanks.

This is a complication that is specific to Americans because the US consulate does not authenticate documents. Other countries do, which makes the process much less painful.

Only option is to send your diploma off to your state to be locally authenticated, then to your state's State Department, then the US State Department, then the Qatari consulate in DC. Will take some time to get all this done.

Don't overstay. Fly out to Bahrain or Dubai for a week-end once a month until the mess is cleared up. Will only cost QAR 10 for you to get a visa at the border.

If your company is honest enough, they should pay for your flight as well.
