Wife Sponsoring Husband ??
Recently my wife (UK resident) who works for a Qatari company applied to the Department of Labour to sponsor me (Australian resident)
Unfortunately we were told that the new Labour Law regarding expatriate wives sponsoring husbands that was supposedly passed back in February was yet to take effect ie: her application was knocked back as the law is still in limbo (salary is not an issue)
We are very confused by this as it was widely reported in all the newspapers that the new law would take effect immediately (Feb 2009) yet we have now find out that this is supposedly not the case
As it stands I am currently not in full time employment as I am a writer and I have to leave every 2nd month (tourist visa) - we understand that we can apply for a 6 month family visa however this still means that I have to leave every 6 months
We were under the impression that the family visa is different to the permanent visa which I would get under my wife's sponsorship which in effect would allow to stay and not have to continually leave on visa runs and also allow me to get an Qatari ID card and permanent licence
Am I wrong in thinking this????
If anyone has any further information with regards to this subject it would be much appreciated
Thanks
I just tried to sponsor my husband to and they said the same thing.. I even talk to the manager but he rejected to.. But somebody told me his officemate was being sponsored by his wife..
Hi there Hanis,
Unfortunately, I do not have any answers for you as I am just now starting to research how I can get my Dutch fiance to Qatar. But I am hoping you can help ME out :)
I am expecting to move to Qatar in less than 2 months and am desperately trying to find a way to move my fiance there with me. (We plan to marry soon).
You mentioned that you can apply for a family visa that will allow you to stay in the country for 6 months. Are there also problems with that type of visa since it is still your wife sponsoring you? I really look forward to having a career in Qatar, but I have already been away from my fiance for a year and we do not want to spend any more time apart!
Also, do you have any links to the new labor law that was passed in Qatar stating that a wife can sponsor her husband? I haven't seen anything on that and would like to familiarize myself with it.
I'm sorry I couldn't give you any advice, but I hope you and your wife are able to work something out soon!
Thanks!
just keep on trying! there's no harm in trying!
Get your wife's company to keep applying. It took 4 attempts and a bit of wasta in my case. That was 3 years ago before the law was even announced.
