Our family friends stay in Riyadh..They both are having Secreterial jobs. They have two sons.
We would like to bring them over for a small vacation, all paid.
Is it possible for them to get VISA? How much is the approximate distance and time taken to reach Doha by car?...Which is the route to be followed? How much might the VISAS, petrol, cost?
They helped us tide over a difficult time in life, 13 years back when I was pregnant, sick and working..I could go to them anytime for comfort and food.
Now it is time to pay back, in a very small way atleast.
Please do help with your suggestions.

Flying time RIyadh to Doha is just over an hour so far quicker. I flew in November 2010 to Doha from Riyadh, cost with Saudia was 990 SR. If there is a few of them, then obviously far cheaper to drive. A tankful of gas would be no more than 50 SR.

It's a long boring drive. The only reasons for driving are:

a) it's a lot cheaper, especially if you have a car full

b) bringing lots of 'stuff' that you can't take on a plane.

Visa is qR100

They are coming for a short vacation of may be 10+ days...during the vacation in March/April, hopefully. I wish they could stay here forever though..

What is the cost of VISA processing..? Will it be better to fly rather than drive for 7 hours? The one who is supposed to drive is not exactly healthy. He has diabetes and heart problem.. :-(

Thanks a lot, friends..I hope you continue to help...I need to get it going and done...

Oh yes, Visa at the border is by CREDIT CARD ONLY. Don't even try to pay cash, they simply will not take it!

Distance by road is around 620 kms, which as has been said, could take easily 7 hours, and follow the routes already suggested.

Entry into Qatar depends on your passport. I didn't need a visa beforehand for weekend visit, got one on arrival and paid 100QR at the airport ( UK Passport ).

Obviously, they will need exit / re-entry visa for KSA. Are they coming for a holiday or permanently?

Good Luck

They can visit Qatar Consulate / Embassy in Riyadh and apply for a visit visa to Qatar via Road.

Your husband can also sponsor them for a visit visa. Sent the scan copies to them they need to show the same there at Qatar Embassy in Riyadh.

I do have a Road-Map for the Route Riyadh-Doha and vice-versa............you can also search it on Qatarliving....

Its a PAY-BACK Time ................

Hi my friend! As per my knowledge, travel agencies in Doha, Qatar can issue a hotel visa as a tourist visa. The rate will vary from the hotel. Your friends might need to actually stay in that hotel (minimum 2-3 nights stay, depending on which hotel). For a 3 star hotel, I think they are charging QAR 400-600 per passport for the visa(irregardless of age) plus QAR 300-400 range per night for the hotel. I suggest you visit or call any travel agency there. You might want to check from Qatar Embassy, but for sure they will ask you to do the same as I told you. =) If you call the travel agency the first time, tell them about the situation. Be ready to give some information about your friends in Riyadh, like nationality, date of birth and if they are all holding a residence permit in Riyadh, also their visa status and its validity. From there, the agent will tell you the next step. Goodluck!

Ciao.
