UAE and Qatar residency - can you have both?

My apologies if this question is repetitive.. but.. there seems to be conflicting answers!

I'm currently a UAE resident (Ajman specifically) under my father's sponsorship, its not a work visa residence.. it even states i'm a student.

Now.. i got a job offer with QA and they've asked that i cancel any WORK visa's here in the UAE ofcourse prior to entering and working in Qatar. but i don't have a WORK visa, its a FAMILY visa.

I called the dept of residence and naturalization here in UAE this morning and asked if I could have both residencies, one's for work in Qatar, the other is non-work related under my fathers.. nooo problem is what i was told.. several times.. HOWEVER, this "no problem" is applicable to the UAE law.. now under Qatari law.. do i have to cancel my family visa?! this will suck cause i'm constantly going to be visiting dubai..

anyone in the same predicament or been through this to know? tnx in advance.

Hi Roya,

thanks for sharing your experience. I have a similar situation but my case might be different.

I have an Investor Visa in the UAE (I'm the owner of a company here) and have found a job in Qatar. I was asked by HR to cancel my existing UAE visa but for obvious reasons I don't want to do that.

Do you know if I can keep it?

May I ask How much did the fees amount to (when you say you paid quite a bit)?

many thanks,

any feedback from anyone else on the matter would be really appreciated!!

Oli

and the verdict is in...

I CAN'T keep my "student" UAE residency if i want to work in qatar. uuuuuuft :/ its not part of QA policy apparently... at this point i'm just coming anyway, get started on all the necessities, and when its time to cancel then will work on it.. god it took us forever and paid quite a bit to get this residency. can't win them all i guess.

hi guys, thank you all for your feedback.

i'll be sorting all this out soon with HR as it might be on a case by case scenario.. i have bank accounts, a car loan, an apt w/parents, drivers license and emirates ID for egate here.. i mean for all this to be cancelled could be quite problematic.. plus i'm on probation for 6 months with work first, it doesn't make sense to just cancel everything at this point?.. i dunno.. fingers crossed, will keep u all posted. tnx again.

It is possible to have both Qatari as well as UAE visa at the same time.I have seen person having private company sponsorship in UAE and having corporate sponsorship in Qatar. In fact UAE also allows people to hold Saudi visas as well.

Technicall and legally no issue as you have residence under your father sponser ship. and you are there in UAE a student. so no issue in having new sponser ship for job in qatar.

This willl be only [problematic if you are having sponser ship in UAE from some company and doing some job, even then this is not a problem for working in qatar, only problem in this case you can face in re entry into UAE unless you cancell your job sponser ship.

Otherwise in your present case there will not be any issue in having two resdents.

Procedd with full confidence.

Just to share my personal experience; I had to cancel my UAE residence before they accepted to stamp my Qatar RP on my passport. it was such a dead end that I had to DHL my passport back to Dubai and have a friend take care of the cancellation for me. Mind you, we're talking about 2 working visas here.

roya, you can have 2 residency at a time. I am having a UAE family visa and a Qatar work permit. I am not allowed to work in the UAE. I think your case is similar. PM me if you need any more info. Thank You!

it depends on each particular case. Person can hold both residencies in case he/she is under the same entity's sponsorship. Let's say, company "ABC" has its branches in Dubai and in Doha. your duties include frequent travelling, and you basically live in both countries. In this case you will be allowed to keep both residencies, 2 driver license, etc.

In your case it doesn't seem to be possible. But again, there are always exceptions.

I just went through the same thing with the same employer. You have to cancel your UAE RP first.

@ Arabianprincess, not all Qatar residents are eligible for visa on arrival, depends on the person's profession as stated in Qatar residence permit...

Dear Roya, i don't think you can have both since in your working visa in Qatar you can enter UAE anytime you want (GCC rules). Besides, if they don't allow that you hold 2 driving license in the same time (it happened to me personally), I had to give them my UAE driving license in order to transfer to Qatari driving license, definitely they will not allow 2 residency visas.

best of luck... if you need more info, you can send me message or email. regards
