Tourist visa problems visiting Qatar

I need to ask you something. The thing is that I am planning my holidays to go to Indonesia (a wedding of a friend of my boyfriend). We have already bougth our tickets. So, the flight is going to do scale in Qatar, 5 hours in our the way to Indonesia and 19 hours when we come back. we were planning to visit Doha that day because we will be form 6.10 am to 1.00 am (+1).

Im mexican and I live in Madrid. So, I just called the consulate of Qatar in Madrid to arrange all the tramits, visa and staff. They told me that:

1) Without a visa or invitation of someone there I just can stay 8 hours in the airport.

2) For the visa I have to arrange everything from my country, that means I have to go to Mexico to have the visa. (I cant do that of course).

3) I need to have an invitation from a person from there to stay the time I will, if I visit Doha or not. Because you CANT stay in the airport more than 8 hours. I

So, that person in the consulate here told me that for Spainards there is no problem (only 33 contries in the world can stay more than 8 hours without a visa). But for mexican there is, so, thats why many people dont buy tickets with stop in Qatar.

I dont want to bother you, but Im really shocked, I just cant beleive may be I will not be able go to Indonesia. I know is my fault, but I didnt know it could be this difficult.

The only thing I can do is take the risk and go to the airport the day we have planned. (from the 13 of august to the 7 of september, will stay the 6 all day long in the airport if there is no problem).

I need to ask you a favor. Well I am so nervious that I dont know what can I do. May be someone can call the embassy or consulate so I can see if it is true. Or someone knows something. Or maybe the way I could have an invitation letter.

My boyfriend tells me that it will not be a problem, but Im affraid it will, cause political and international things are the way they are.

What do you think? I was very excited with my holiday, and right know I just see me here in Madrid with no vacations.

I hope someone can help me.

Gracias.
