GO TO YOUR EMBASSY AND ASK THIS QUE. WHICH NATIONALITY ARE YOU?
If you renew your passport you don't have to renew your visa or RP unless it is also expiring. If you bring your old passport (with the current visa) along with the new passport to immigration, they can transfer your visa to the new passport. I've had it done and so has every member of my family. Our passports expired and we still had over a year left on our RPs.
It all depends which country you are from. Does your Country have a Embassy here in Qatar it is fairly simple, but like in my instances where my country do not have an embassy here it is fairly complicated and takes a long time to get a new passport
