My visa is six month only am i right or wrong and only a visit visa not a residence visa?

I have a copy of visa date of issue is august 2, 2011. Entry Before is January 29, 2012. Visa Type is Work Visa. purpose of visa is visit. And duration of residence is 5 yrs. but until now i did not get through. Im only want to know this visa is good for six month only am i right or wrong? So after that my medical and finger print that is the time that i have a residence visa.? Because this company that i am working now they are the one who took my visa like this. When i enter here in qatar as a visit visa for one month, then after 1 month they give it to me this visa. If I dnt like to continue to work with them it is possible ?
