Is ladies on Husband Sponsorship not entitled to Maternity leave as per Qatar Labour Law

Me a lady working in a Contracting Company on Husband Sponsorship since August 2010 till date.

But Now as i have applied for the paid Maternity leave of 50 days as per the labour law, I am told that I am not eligible for it as i am not on the Company Sponsorship / Visa.

But Since 2 years the govt of Qatar is not issuing the Ladies work visa. therefore the companies opt for Ladies on husband sponsorship / Family visa as it convinent for the companies to immediately hire and do not give the benefits as per the qatar labour law.

I just want to know whether the labour law is meant for the employees who are on the Employer's Visa / Company sponsorship ?

I don't think this is correct at all.

I am under my husband's sponsorship and I took paid maternity when I had my daughter 1 1/2 years ago.

But in saying that I am not sure about Qatari law - the only thing I know for sure under Qatari law is that a woman return to work after giving birth is entitled to 'nursing hours' so you are allowed to work 2 hours less per day - this is paid and you are allowed to take that time off however you wish to during the day - so you could finish 2 hours earlier than normal or take a 2 hour break during the day.

Check with the labour department I guess to see what local law actually states.

Good luck.
