Is it true that you can no longer extend the validity of resident permit?

Hey QLers.
Is it true that we can no longer extend the validity of resident permit if the bearer will be staying outside Qatar for more than 6 months? I usually pay 500 riyals each for my wife and kid whenever they are out out for more than 6 mos.
I've heard that if you pay that amount now, the immigration will just extend the visa for 1 month and bearer should arrive in Qatar before that period else their visa will be cancelled.
Can anybody confirm this?
Thanks
You have to have a justification for the extension. I just extend my daughters 'return visa' for another 6 months and it was approved. I include her school certificate in the application.
it seems that immigration realized how a lot of people used the practice of extending the visa validity beyond 6 months & avail family status perks provided by some company.
Wow. if its true than extension is useless and just a waste of money.
you have now to extend the validity by paying 500 QR two weeks prior to arrival.
I heard it is only 15 days and not even one month.
