Exit permit for a Family Visa holder???

Can anybody please make it clear...
"Those who are holding family visa need an exit permit to leave the country or not???"

Here's the story...
My bf's holding a family visa (his dad works here and his whole family's here) and as far as I know he doesn't and never need an exit permit to leave Qatar.

We've been out of the country together for few times and never have a problem about his exit permit.

But on our last trip, the lady at the immigration counter did ask him for an exit permit which he didn't have one. We were trying to explain to her that he never need an exit permit. But she didn't seem to speak much English, the only thing she said was 'Exit,Exit'!!!.

So the flight left without us and we end up staying in Doha for another half day. Being lost about this exit permit things (where to apply, what to bring, etc.) And people at the airport who know the answer didn't know how to speak English.

But the weirdest thing is when we were decided to take chance, we went back again the same evening (without exit permit), checked in and passed through the immigration counter again with the different immigration officer my bf can just passed through without being asked about exit permit!!!

So it was such a pain, and we are planing to leave Qatar for vacation again in few months and now I'm scared. Can anybody give me the clear answer if he need the exit permit or not? If yes, how to get one?

Thanks ^__^

Thanks again for all the answers.

Well, TANU1...He's above 18 and we've been off Qatar together few times before and never has such a problem that's why I'm wondering.

And Assil...We did try to check. But the problem is the immigration offices couldn't speak English so she just kept saying 'EXIT, EXIT!!!' , neither do other officer that the ground staff send us to talk to. (there's two of them sitting by the door in front of the immigration zone) The first guy Kept told us to wait and pointed to another guy who was talking on his mobile phone ignoring us.

I did understand like all of you that my bf doesn't need exit permit but now I feel like it's a roulette, depending on our luck if they will ask for exit permit or not.

No hard feelings, just wondering what's the standard.

As far as I know, Family Visa holders never need an exit permit..

You have to check why he was stopped and asked for exit permit...

Well it was indeed an unfortunate incident or say bad time for being asked to produce Exit Permit which is never required at all. As for as my knowledge is concerned, when any expat who is under sponsorship of either Qatari national or Company only required Exit Permit to leave the country.

As per your statement your b/f must have been sponsored by his dad. So naturally does not require. If still Immigration authorities insist, there is an application which has to be typed in Arabic and your b/f's dad (sponsor) must sign later he has to submit the same at Airport Immigration (24 Hrs working) or Immigration @ Garafa or Messaimar or Wakra and show his Original ID card and must pay QR. 10/-.

How old is he ? Is he still eligible to be under his father's sponshorship ? He should have asked the lady at immigration counter to allow him to meet the officer incharge of immigration to explain his case .
