The Interior Minsitry says it has provided facility to issue exit permits through different channels “to save considerable time and effort”
Minors among nationals and all expatriates should obtain exit permits before heading to the Doha airport or any border posts for travelling outside the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has said in a statement.
Expatriates should get exit permits for their male children above 18 years before they go out of the country, it said. It shall be obtained with the approval of their sponsors whether they are residents or visitors.
The assistant director of General Directorate of Border Passports and Expatriates Affairs (GDBPEA), Brigadier Mohamed Ahmed al-Ateeq, said that all types of exit permits could be obtained from the MoI service centres across the country, the Airport Passports Department, MoI and e-government websites.
“There is a wide belief that exit permit can be obtained only from the Airport Passports Department which is not true,” he added.
Al-Ateeq reminded the expatriates that their male children of 18 years or more had to avail of the exit permit whether they were residents or visitors if they had stayed for more than 30 days in the country.
“Visitors who have stayed more than 30 days have to obtain exit permits as stipulated in the Residence Law No 4/2009 that regulates entry, exit, residence and sponsorship of expatriates.”
Women on parent’s/husband’s sponsorship is exempted from this, he added.
Al-Ateeq said the ministry had provided facility to issue exit permits through different channels “to save considerable time and efforts”.
He said: “It won’t take more than few minutes once the application is submitted along with mandatory documents.”
To obtain exit permits for Qatari minors, application forms available on the MoI website shall be filled and signed by the guardian and submitted along with original Qatari ID of the guardian and original passport of the minor.
The head of the Airport Passports Section, Major Nasser al-Humaidi, clarified that the sponsor himself was the authorised person to obtain exit permits in case of personal sponsorship and authorised company representatives in case of company sponsorship. The validity of the exit permits is seven days.
Al-Humaidi said that many expatriates were reaching the airport without noticing some of their children were above 18 and when they were asked to produce the exit permits, they feigned ignorance. “To avoid any last-minute hassle for the journey, parents are requested to ensure they have obtained exit permit.”
He pointed out that there was no special office to issue exit permit inside the departures terminal at Doha International Airport. “But there is a special office to apply for exit permits outside the departure lounge and it works round the clock.”
Al-Humaidi urged citizens and residents to complete the procedures electronically to reduce the required time and the information updated would be available with the Ministry of Interior. He added that certain things should be verified before applying for the exit permit such as the validity of the residence permit and validity of the passport. “This information is available online and it will be rechecked electronically within seconds and applicant could sign electronically using smart ID card.”
