Credit card Defaulters
I was working in Qatar and I took 2 credit cards from a Bank and unfortunately I lost my job and my sponcer canceled my visa without my knowledge and asked my to fly back to my home country. Now am in my home country and after 2 months I received a call from a recovery agency based in my country and they're asking me to pay 6 times of what was my actual credit limit. I am in a deep financial crisis and not able to understand what I can do at this point of time. They were actually threatning me that they will put a travel bann on me which means that I cannot only travel to Qatar but they will bann me to travel anywhere in the world. Please can someone tell me wat will be the consequences if I dont pay and how deep the collection department ppl can go.
Not clear whether the charges were from your own usage of the credit card (plus late payment fines as per the banks rules) or because someone illegally use your card via skimming and identity theft.
For the second case, then you have everyright to challenge it. Perhaps showing that you had left the country when the usage occur can be used as a defence.
For the first case, then unfortunately somehow or other you will need to pay. May be you can negotiate with the claimant about paying in installment, haircut etc. Don't know how the laws work there, but may be declaring bankruptcy will keep the collector off as well. In any case you may want to get youself a legal advise on this.

This is a good lesson for people who thinks they can cheat banks and go out without pay, dear, in all over the world there is recovery agents they will not leave you if you are staying in the same address you gave at the time of taking the loan/passport address. Dont worry too much about their threaten, you can negotiate with them and inform your situation, some times they will allow you to settle one time payment more or less of 50% of your outstanding, until you pay they will not allow you to sleep properly, you can expect daily visit to your home as well.
ok...having worked in that area before, I can say that depending on the bank (and the associated collection agency) they can only go as far as making sure you dont come back into Qatar.
there are 2 types of agencies (soft and hard). Once it goes to the hard, these agents will come to your house and carry out threatening approaches to compel you to pay. At this point of time you can hire a lawyer and make a formal police complaint for harrassment and risk to life. Depending on your country laws, you may get the benefit...they cannot lay a finger on you or your property.
There is also the option on filing a legal case against you (but they will only do that if the recoverable amount is really big).
They cant do anything more than that.
