Reason why i'm asking is that husband is currently employed but being made redundant. i would like to sponsor him so that he can look for another job and we don't have to leave just yet.

According to the new sponsorship law issued in 2009 women can sponsor both ‎husbands and children.‎

yes, theoretically the wife may sponsor her husband. But it depends on the wife's position and salary, and the Company where she works.
