Well said @Ahmed zaki, i have come across such a situation, where these people were just asking from me to give them any amount of INR money if i have any with me, because i cannot use it when i go out of country. literally beggars are being employed in Indian Airports...
Thanks for the info, but someone told me that they check by model which will give them the date of manufacture of TV and if any date is before 5 yrs then its free to take and nothing will be charged...
For old TV's, you have to pay 20% duty charges. That's what I see people paying at the counter when I was paying 36% for my new TV.
Officially it says 36% for new and 20% for old TV's irrespective of the age of TV, but there are always ways to convince the officer and get your item cleared at fraction of the quoted percentage.
@wayfarer, You will have to produce bill to prove that TV is 6 years old and then you will have to pay 10% duty + another 20% on other taxes on its price. Or else, custom officers will treat it as new and you pay 36%. So it doesn't really makes a difference, either 30% or 36%. You take a TV, pay tax and duty.
@Ahmedzaki: do we have to pay tax @ 36% for the old Samsung 40" TV also, like say more than 6 yrs old in the Airport Customs. I have the Old box and how can i inform in the Airport Customs about this. I dont have the bill also.
@ahmed : Indian budget is a big joke,,,,,,its still the same %,,,,,,take it home professionally or by gfting my dp bottle to the custom officer on Indian airport :)
Yes you can, but you have to pay tax @ 36% of the invoice value. After the union budget in February 2015, LED's and LCD TV's has become cheaper and custom tax has been reduced, donno what is the current tax percentage, should be less than 36%. Persons who recently carried TV's to India after the union budget, should share exact percentage being charged now, which can be beneficial information to all QL users.
Yes you can but you will have to pay customs (legally will cost you almost actual price of the TV). There are other loads of disgraceful and unethical ways. People do it and call it as Chai Pani in India.

Custom officers are literally beggars. Irrespective of the age of TV, they need our hard earned money, by hook or crook.
Thanks for the info, but someone told me that they check by model which will give them the date of manufacture of TV and if any date is before 5 yrs then its free to take and nothing will be charged...
I believe it was a false info that i got....
