Bad Debts from Dubai

Hi Guys at QL! My friend left Dubai to return home in 2007 with some bad debts. He regrets what he has done and intends to turn over a new leaf. He has now a job offer in Qatar which he is quite keen to accept. Must he tell his potential employers about his Dubai debts? Will he be issued with a Residence Permit? Will he be able to open up a bank account in Qatar? Appreciate your help. Thanks

Thanks for all your answers!

I'll make sure to relay all of them to him.

His concern stems from the rumour that he'll be arrested once he steps in any GCC country. Is this true? Do government (ie. immigration or police) departments within the GCC, share information on foreigners who leave their countries withour paying off the debts in full? And if they do, will my friend be subsequently deported to Dubai?

Thanks.

bad debt for ur friend has no problem as he only suffer the loss. but if u mean ur friend is in the bad debtors list of some banks in dubai, then he will be in trouble. heard of banks pass p-port information to the banking network so that he won't repeat it with other banks. still let him try his luck $ $ $ $ $

disclosing your debts is not a requirement to your new company so i dont find a reason for you to tell them its a personal matter.

unsolicited advice, just make sure to settle it if you can because you dont know in the future , maybe there will be good offer for you back in dubai.

we have also loan in uae but we settled it thru a guarantor . we are paying it on a monthly basis without any bad thoughts of it.

paying loans will give you peace of mind.

Accept the Qatar offer and once he has a job, start paying his obligation regarding his Dubai debt. But if his intention is just to work here and forget his debt, that's bad.

If your friend wants to turn over a new leaf they should pay off the bad debts so they don't have to worry about if it will keep them from getting a new job.

He should be able to do all those things you mentioned above if his intention is to pay back the debt of dubai after earning..

else qatar authorites will not trust that guy as he can do the same here and move to a third country..

he has to be sincere..he will be able to get entry
