I agree with Angelo.
When I faced a similar situation, I had the engine completely overhauled and then continued using the car for a couple of years. But when I went to sell my car, no buyer believed me that my car had an overhauled engine. The price I was getting was the same for cars of the same model.
It is true that buying a second-hand vehicle is usually a "blind buy."
