Laws keep changing here. Previously, one could get an extension up to 6 months. Suggest, you visit any of the passport & immigration office and find out for yourself. If they are allowing an extension till 6 months, you can get it done while you are there. Avoid going to the office located at Al Gharaffa as usually there is big rush there.
