The steps taken by Qatar to make tutoring illegal were not done without reason. There were many school teachers who had made part-time teaching as their "main source" of income, thus giving little attention to their "real" profession for which they had practically no time left.
However, it goes without saying that private tutoring is very beneficial to some students who are slow learners. Tutors provide face-to-face attention to a student and as such get to be more aware of a student's weaknesses which he helps in overcoming at home through tutoring. This helps the student in greater understanding and clearer concepts of the subject being taught. Students feel free to pose all sorts of questions to their tutors without hesitation which they cannot do so in class. Added to this, students may not just discuss school lessons with their tutors. Students nearing the age of maturity usually have a keen desire to know about modern trends, discuss social and political issues taking place in the world around. They can get guidance on these matters at home through their tutors. A good tutor really fills in the gaps that cannot be done at school.
Being "educated" is not limited to just earning degrees. It is the acquiring of knowledge through all means!
