Brit: It's something all governments generally do; anytime citizens are in trouble - even of their own making - the govt tries to help in any way they can; you of course know how hard the American or the British govts work to help minimise the pain for nationals caught drink driving here or smuggling drugs through brutal Latin countries' airports. They do their bit even for their less savoury people :-)
