This is possibly because many of the "uneducated" feel that Urdu is the language of the Qur'an and the Muslims due the fact the Urdu language has the same script as Arabic plus many of its own letters which are not present in Arabic. What they do not know or ever care to know, is that the Urdu language was born in India itself. The word "Urdu" means "caravan." The language developed due to the interaction of traders from the Middle East, Persia, Turkey etc who traveled to India centuries ago for trade. That is the reason why the language has many words of Arabic, Persian, Turkish etc. Some of the great Urdu poets such as Ghalib and Haali were Indians. Poets Hasrat Jaipuri, Shakeel Badayuni and several others who wrote songs for the Indian films and writers such as Munshi Premchand were all from India.
