Despite the darkness and scariness of it all, one can truly learn a lot when researching how any notorious criminal came to being what they are from what they were. Some lessons:
*We are warned that a person may not be what they appear to be, and whilst we do not act all paranoid and suspicious of everyone we meet, we still must practice much caution in our interactions with new acquaintances and strangers. Mama knew much when she warned us with the do not talk to strangers bit! And wolves in sheep's clothing is not a myth!
*We must likewise teach our children to be extremely careful when faced with strangers specially when unaccompanied by parents/guardians and teach them about the birds, the bees and the beasts! Trying to keep children innocent of the real world can be pure folly and predators out there can use this against you and them, God forbid.
* We must be mindful of our children at all times. Neglect is a form of abuse and can bring on dire consequences . Always be watchful of where they go, who they befriend, how they spend their spare time, etc. And keep an eye open for any drastic changes in their personalities and moods.
*A common sign of many a serial killer was them taking glee in abusing and killing animals. Thus never underestimate and tolerate such cruelty in kids!
* The age old adage of always check your locks, and make sure you are always on your guard when going out unaccompanied should never be neglected.
* Be aware of those around you and your surroundings. Again many a criminal was caught thanks to attentive neighbors.
A fact of life is one must always learn from the mistakes of others, sad as it maybe!
