i take the public karwa bus and go home with my groceries on it too. it costs only 2.50 from home to work or to city center if you have the bus card. the problem is the schedules are usually not met and i'd be forced to take a cab if the bus doesn't come.
if the shoes i'm wearing on any particular day don't hurt and i don't feel hungry i walk home.
