Many people have and will. Question then is should you die of your broken heart? After all it's not the breaking of your heart itself that kills you unless it's something instantous like say a heart attack brought on by the grief. It's generally due to you neglecting your physical and mental health due to your sorrow.
My own grandma suffered such an end, pained as she was at the the deaths of both her only sons, who died less than a day apart. She was so depressed and just sunk into her sorrow until it all just killed her.
IMO if the person wishes to let their distress consume them, it will. I hope I am never trialled with such a situation in my life. But it will help as a preventive measure to never love anyone or anything too much. Know that anything and anyone on earth is perishable and prone to change. By this we might be able to overcome losses and disasters much better, God willing!
