Such drastic and extreme steps are a result of desperation in the parents but not only its useless, they are making their daughter more audacious to do such things in the future and also breaking bonds of love and trust with her.

All I can say that the parents didn't do what they needed to earlier when things were not that bad. She is in teenage now and thus definitely 'fragile' and 'sensitive' for anything other than counseling.
