Just because they had assembled two types of bombs didn't mean they had to use both one after the other. One bomb was good enough to impart great damage to the Japanese and break them.

I feel this was a premeditated action of the US to use both the bombs in any case. I also feel 72 hours was not enough time for a country to announce its surrender.
