"... Saudi Arabia dropped demands in the motion calling for Assad to stand down and sanctions against his government because of opposition from countries including India, Brazil and South Africa, diplomats said."
- Even India and South Africa support BA remaining in power.
"... a proxy war, with regional and international players arming one side or the other... Now, with the situation having worsened, they must again find common ground. The immediate interests of the Syrian people must be paramount over any larger rivalries of influence."
- Hope and pray they find that common ground and fast ... before further collateral damage to innocent lives!
Al Jazeera also reported this and showed Russia's UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin blasting the resolution, saying it gave "blatant" support to Syrian rebels and that its backers were the countries providing "mercenaries and arms" to the opposition"
- Isn't this twisting things around? The opposition had no weapons to fight with in the beginning. All diplomatic motions were gone through prior to finally doing what was necessary, as the opposition had nothing much to defend themselves with.
Come to think of it, China, Russia, Catholic church and any other authoritarian regime use the same tactics to suppress any dissent but I guess it happens everywhere in the world, to a lesser or greater degree, that's all.
/No offense to China, Russia, Catholic church or any other authoritarian regime, surely they verily believe in the correctness of their decisions.
