Same situation we were put in a couple of months ago my Spanish friend who also happened to have his passport taken away for the ID processing got stopped at the Irish Harp entrance because he didn't have his identification with him just as four white aussies who also didn't have their ID on them were let off the hook! I literally had to put up a nasty fight to get him inside which I finally did with a big grin on my face: P
