These were among the many narrations on death by our Prophet and it pretty much says it all. We can today do all we like, enjoy all of life's golden moments, eat drink and be merry, live our life to the fullest so to speak, but when death comes to us...
I know what you mean. I have done that too. My mom was by my uncle's side whilst he was dying a painful death, but said of how in his last moment he looked intently at a fixed place ahead, then suddenly smiled a relieved smile brighter than he had ever smiled in his life, before dropping. He always, for some reason, wanted to die during the call for prayer, and he did! I keep imagining what did he see? how did it feel to know your end is here?
I only ever pray for martyrdom. That's how I wanna go. Our Prophet did wish for us ""May you wear new clothes, live well, and die a martyr"
Funerals and deaths of others are always reminders that our own may not be very far away! May Allah grant us all blessed ends..Aameen.
