Behind the shiny thin veneer of opulence in this places are ramshackle, poorly designed, and unregulated buildings. If this were China there would be executions; if this were the U.S. the punitive damages in the courts would bleed those responsible into abject poverty. May God have mercy on those responsible for this tragedy, because no decent government should.
