The teacher housing at AKIS is excellent. There are 3 and 4 bed roomed semi detached villas available in small compounds in Al Khor, all no more than a 15 minute drive away from the Community where the school is based. If you need any further information, then I suggest that you contact the school. They will be able to give you more information.

There are a few apartments on the Community still allocated to school, but I do not know if they will be allocated to new staff.

The small mall in Al Khor has not opened yet. It is supposed to be going to open in July. ( I will not be holding my breath though, it was supposed to be finished 3 years ago, lol) The atmosphere is good on the compounds as far as I am aware. Other teachers from the school will be living on the compounds, in fact they are teacher only compounds at the moment, with teachers from the British and Indian streams living there along with their families.

In all honesty there are not a lot of things to do in Al Khor, and most people will travel into Doha of a weekend. As a member of the AKIS teaching staff you will be able to use the private beach club, which is about 25 mins drive away from the Community.

Lots of people say that there is nothing to do in Qatar, but really it is what you make of it. You will have to go out and find things to do for yourself. You will probably socialise a lot with the people from the school as you will find that you will have similar interests or children of the same age and so that in some ways makes things easier.

If you look on the TES overseas forum there is a lot of useful information that has been been posted by hippo, if you have not had a look I suggest you do and search for hippo to get the relevant posts.

There are plenty of small shops and small supermarkets in Al khor so if you really don@t want to drive into Doha every week to do your shopping in one of the megastores then you can shop locally.
